Insulation Band & Buckles

Insulation band is metal strapping, closed with buckles or clips, that holds pipe section insulation, cladding and duct wrap tightly in place on pipes, ducts and equipment. It is supplied in GI for economical indoor work and in SS 304 or SS 316 for outdoor and corrosive environments, with matching buckles for quick tensioning.

Insulation band is available in 12, 16, 19, 20 and 25 mm widths and 0.5, 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8 mm thickness, in standard 30 m coils. Narrower, thinner bands are typically used to hold insulation on small and medium pipes, while wider, thicker bands suit cladding on large pipes, vessels and tanks where more holding force is needed.

Stainless steel banding in SS 304 or SS 316 is the choice for outdoor, coastal and chemical plant installations, because GI band can rust once its zinc coating is damaged. GI banding is economical and suitable for indoor or dry areas. Tensile strength ranges from 300 to 600 N/mm² depending on grade.

Insulation band is used with wing seal buckles or ear-lock type buckles, supplied boxed with the coils. Wing seals are common for general pipe and cladding work: the band is tensioned and the wings are bent over to lock it. Ear-type buckles are crimped with a tool and give a compact, low-profile finish.

Bands are preferred where the vapor barrier must not be pierced, as on cold and cryogenic insulation, and for holding insulation layers before cladding. Self-Tapping Screw is used to fix cladding sheet overlaps on hot piping and flat surfaces. Many jobs use both: bands for the insulation layers and screws or bands for the outer Aluminum Cladding Sheet & Coil.

Band is cut from the coil, wrapped around the insulation or cladding, passed through a buckle, pulled tight with a banding tensioner and locked. Bands are spaced at regular intervals along each pipe section, tight enough to hold firmly without crushing soft insulation. On cladding, bands usually sit over the circumferential overlaps to keep joints closed.

Stainless steel insulation band is made from strip to ASTM A240, and GI band from steel conforming to IS 513. These are the listed material standards for the strip itself. Insulation band and buckles are exported under HS code 73269099, other articles of iron or steel, which covers GI and stainless steel strapping. Insulation band is sold by the coil, 30 m per coil as standard, boxed with matching buckles. To estimate quantity, multiply the outer circumference of the insulation plus overlap by the number of bands, then allow one buckle per band.
